The Company traces its roots back to the early 1920's when Mathew Andis, who worked at Mitchell Motor Car Company in Racine, Wisconsin, USA as a tool maker, decided to leave the business. John Oster and Henry Meltzer asked to be partners, and Andis OM Manufacturing was born. Their business grew rapidly and soon their company was making tools and making blades for non-powered hand clippers. This partnership, however, only lasted about a year. When the three separated, each started their own company in Racine. He quickly developed the electric clipper and founded the Clipper Company, that company officially incorporated in 1922, which eventually evolved into the company of today, with the invention of the HP fractional motor.
